Sustainable Furniture: What to Look for and What to Avoid
Not all "eco" claims are equal. We explain what truly sustainable furniture looks like and the certifications worth trusting.
The furniture industry is one of the largest contributors to deforestation. Making better choices matters.
Look for: FSC or PEFC certified timber, recycled or reclaimed materials, water-based finishes, local manufacturing (shorter supply chain).
Be sceptical of: Vague "eco-friendly" claims without certification, particle board marketed as "wood", furniture with no stated country of manufacture.
Questions to ask: How long will this last? Can it be repaired? What happens to it at end of life?
At Aethelon, our sustainable line is certified reclaimed or FSC-sourced, assembled in low-emission workshops, and designed to be repaired — not replaced.
